Zillow Group’s New York General Manager Matt Daimler (Credit: Twitter and iStock)UPDATED Thursday, August 22, 2019 12:11 p.m.: StreetEasy is doubling down on manual entry.Today, the Zillow Group-owned listings platform is rolling out a dedicated app and upgraded back-end tools for agents to enter and manage their listings. Now agents can edit open houses, as opposed to just adding or deleting, and more expansive amenity fields that allow agents to specify details like rental concessions, wheelchair accessibility, types of views, fireplaces and hardwood floors. The new app, dubbed StreetEasy Agent Tools, offers all the same edit and management functions as the desktop version.According to the company, the new software upgrades and app were tested with a pilot group of four brokerages and nearly 200 agents.“Think of it as Apple announcing the next version of iOS,” a spokesperson wrote in an email. “This is our next version of Agent Tools.”When Agent Tools debuted earlier this year, StreetEasy’s insistence on manual entry over listings feeds provided by brokerages drew backlash from brokerage heads and agents. At the time, StreetEasy’s general manager Matt Daimler said the move to agents directly entering their listings was to reduce errors and improve consumers’ experience.According to the spokesperson, more than 50 percent of StreetEasy’s listing are manually entered by agents currently.Correction: Anchor Associates was originally identified as one of the brokerages that partnered with StreetEasy for the pilot test of Agent Tools. It was not, though some of its agents participated. This content is for subscribers only.Subscribe Now

That’s what recent articles from the Italian media have been suggested over the past few days, as Milan, thanks to Ralf Rangnick, appear to be creating a gap between themselves and the competition.Alongside Arsenal, Paris Saint-Germain are circling around the Hungary international, but the Serie A club ‘intend to defend their lead’ between now and the end of the month.Calciomercato report that’s when a ‘definitive decision’ will be taken from the player regarding his future, having already given Milan a ‘full opening’ regarding a move.A five-year contract with a wage of €1.4m/year + bonuses is waiting for him in Italy, as will Rangnick when he eventually takes over from Stefano Pioli at the end of the campaign. For Arsenal, it’s a sign they need to get themselves into gear if they don’t want to miss out on one of the hottest properties in the midfield market these days, and have until the end of July to somehow change his mind. This all backs up claims from Tuesday from Pianeta Milan that Szoboszlai was ‘very close’ from securing a move to San Siro.by Taboolaby TaboolaSponsored LinksSponsored LinksPromoted LinksPromoted LinksTrending TodayForge of Empires – Free Online GameIf You Like to Play, this City-Building Game is a Must-Have. Keith Eugene Mann, 50, of Franklin, N.C. was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Martin Reidinger to five years in prison for destroying real property of the United States by means of fire, announced Jill Westmoreland Rose, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina. Mann was also ordered to serve three years under court supervision.“Mann set forest fires which damaged natural resources and potentially put many lives at risk, because he ‘wanted to see something burn.’ Thanks to the swift and thorough investigative efforts of our law enforcement partners, Mann was quickly apprehended and he will be punished for his selfish and irresponsible actions,” said U.S. Attorney Rose.According to today’s sentencing hearing and court documents filed in the case, on October 27, 2016, a wildfire was reported on U.S. Forest Service (USFS) Road 388, commonly referred to as Board Tree Road, which is in Macon Co., and within the Nantahala National Forest. Court documents indicate that the fire had been set intentionally. According to court documents, five other fires had been set in close proximity to the fire on Board Tree Road but appeared to have gone out on their own. Over the course of the investigation of these small fires, law enforcement located several wooden stem matches which helped to establish that the fires were intentionally set.According to court documents, on November 22, 2016, a wildfire was reported at the end of U.S. Forest Service Road 763, commonly referred to as Jones Creek Road, by an individual who identified himself as “Keith Mann.” USFS firefighters responded to the fire and took immediate suppression action. The following day, on November 23, 2016, law enforcement returned to the fire site, where they observed a small cardboard box located at the origin of the fire, with numerous burned wooden stemmed matches next to the box. Following up on the Macon County 911 call, investigators spoke with Keith Mann who admitted to setting the fires both on Board Tree Road and on Jones Creek Road.Mann pleaded guilty to the federal arson charge in March 2017. Mann is currently in federal custody and will be transferred to the custody of the Federal Bureau of Prisons upon designation of a federal facility. All federal sentences are served without the possibility of parole. In making today’s announcement, U.S. Attorney Rose thanked the U.S. Forest Service and the Macon County Sheriff’s Office for their investigation of this case.Assistant United States Attorney Richard Edwards, of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Asheville, prosecuted the case.
Share This!Ever since Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opened on May 31 at Disneyland, the only way in and out of the land is if you have a reservation to enter. However, all that is about to change, beginning June 24. On June 24, the land will be open to all Guests, however, Disney will be offering Guests “boarding passes” that will need to be obtain at the park to be able gain entry, via a virtual queuing system.Prior to visiting Disneyland, Guests will need to download the Disneyland app. When you arrive, you’ll need to check the app or signage around the park the day of your visit to see if you need to join a boarding group to visit Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. These boarding groups will save you a virtual spot in line so you can enjoy other experiences while you wait to be notified of a time to enter the land. You may use the Disneyland app to request to be part of a boarding group only after entering Disneyland park, if the virtual queuing system is implemented that day.Do keep in mind that you will need to link the theme park tickets of everyone in your party together on the app so you will be able to request the same boarding group for your entire party. You should also make sure that you enable push notifications on your phone, that way you will be notified when it is time to enter the land. If you don’t, you’ll need to continually check the Disneyland app or digital signage in the park. Guests will have up to two hours to enter the land after your boarding group is called for admission. For guests not using the Disneyland app, a boarding group may be obtained with a park admission ticket at select Disney FASTPASS locations such as Haunted Mansion, Indiana Jones Adventure, Space Mountain, Splash Mountain or near the Matterhorn Bobsleds.Full details of how a boarding pass can be obtained can be found via this video:Also beginning on June 24, a reservation will be required in order to enter Oga’s Cantina or Savi’s Workshop (to create your lightsaber.) “The post-apartheid government inherited an education system beset by a host of problems, a fundamental issue of which was the structured inequality that was embedded in the system,” noted the report, entitled A Review of the South African Education System. Financial and Fiscal Commission representative Nomonde Madubula told BuaNews that the report highlighted in detail all the facets of the education system in South Africa and how it had come so far despite historical legacy. A report by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development into education in South Africa has found that while the education system has achieved a number of positive results in the past 14 years, it is still in a process of transition, and is suffering from a lack of resources and infrastructure. The team therefore suggested that more attention should be paid to the management of the change process in terms of detailed planning, budgeting and monitoring of change with change resistance and a formal training in the pedagogy of higher education, which should be made available to academic staff, particularly junior lecturers. Stimulating vibrant debate “Added to these weaknesses are major infrastructural deficits, inadequate financing, lack of democratic procedures, imbalanced curricular policy, poor teacher education and very unsatisfactory provision of teaching of teaching materials.” The review included an examination of key aspects of the education system, governance and financing of the education system, curriculum, learning materials and assessment, early childhood education and adult education, vocational education training and human resource development, inclusive education and equity in South African education, the teaching and teacher education as well as higher education. On the issue of equity in the education system, the review team was impressed with the emphasis given in South African policy to inclusivity. It also acknowledged that this had a broader implication than providing persons with disabilities access to schooling. The OECD provides a setting where governments can compare policy experiences, seek answers to common problems, identify good practice and coordinate domestic and international policies. These debates would also surround the OECD’s many useful recommendations following the report’s findings in educating the nation’s children. The department should develop a precise, reliable and consistent data gathering system on special educational needs students and on South African school’s ability to meet the needs of these learners, the OECD recommended. “The OECD review team registered surprise at what we had achieved in 14 years rather than surprise at what we still have to achieve”, Pandor said. “Anywhere in the developing world, a minister of education would be overjoyed at receiving a positive if qualified audit from an international organisation like the OECD.” The report team also noted that the teaching career did not enjoy a good public image, and therefore did not attract high quality candidates. Center for Education and Policy Development analyst Mary Metcalf welcomed the report, telling BuaNews that the review would add value by stimulating vibrant debate where key stakeholders would find common ground for urgent action. ‘Invest in early childhood development’ Presenting a report on vocational educational training, European Training Foundation expert Milena Corradini, who was part of the review team, said better partnerships between the business community and the education sector should be established and links between schools and the world of work should be more systematic. Building capacity The OECD recommended that emphasis on curriculum policy should be placed on the implementation of the current curriculum emphasising the provision of learning materials, professional development of teachers, development of appropriate assessment tools and early diagnosis and remediation of learning problems. “We have to ask ourselves whether the policy interventions we have put in place since 1994 have been instrumental in ensuring that we reach our goals of access, equity, redress, quality, relevance and efficiency,” Pandor told BuaNews this week. An emphasis should be placed on system deficiencies rather than learner’s difficulties, the report said, adding that all schools should also be accountable through annual reports on their physical and accessibility strategies. Policy review ‘crucial’ The report therefore recommended that additional investment in early childhood development should focus on supporting parents as early educators through multimedia, multilingual programmes. It also noted that all Grade R teachers should have access to the same professional development and support resources. “Mechanisms should be established to make the demand in the labour market more dynamic and flexible and better linked to the vocational education training provision and real, on the job training should be provided by companies as part of the training curriculum,” Corradini said. Source: BuaNews Released earlier this week, the report was a result of a request by Education Minister Naledi Pandor for the OECD to undertake a peer review of South Africa’s education policies in 2006. She said she had anticipated a condemning review of the education system, however, the report had instead noted a number of achievements. The straightforward recommendations centre on several themes: the governance and financing of the education system; the curriculum and learning materials; early childhood education and adult education; vocational educational training and human resource development; equity in South African education and teacher training and higher education. The report further found that there was a need for the department to produce a policy position paper setting out a comprehensive action plan and highlighting policy initiatives which were being introduced regarding the teaching career accompanied by a communication plan. Special needs and inclusivity According to the report, pilot schemes should be introduced for the induction of new teachers. “Before promulgating new policy measures for schools, feasibility studies at the level of average or below average schools should be conducted with more attention paid to effective communication of policy,” the OECD recommended, saying that focused training programmes were needed for staff capacity building at provincial and district level. “Achievements are noted and now the real move in the ground is to address challenges made in the report and come with solutions, which is not going to happen overnight, it needs to be progressively realised through a phased approached,” she said. “We are happy with the recommendations,” Balt told BuaNews. “We need professional development of teachers and qualified teachers on the early childhood development and we are very happy about the endorsement of quality learning and teaching campaign as a matter of urgency.” 8 October 2008 Professional teacher development Early childhood development and adult basic education and training have tended to be marginalised in South African education despite some admirable policy documents, said the OECD, adding that due to the racially discriminatory policy of the past, many adults lost out on educational opportunities. National Professional Teachers Organisation of South Africa President Dave Balt complimented Pandor and the department for taking the bold step to commission the report. Commenting on the report, Pandor said policy review was a crucial element of the work of any government.
12 February 2015International technology company IBM will invest R700-million over the next 10 years to build a new Research Africa facility in downtown Johannesburg, the company announced at an IBM ThinkForum event at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg on 6 February. As part of a 10-year investment programme through the Department of Trade and Industry and working closely with the Department of Science and Technology, the new research facility will be based at the University of Witwatersrand (Wits). The lab will focus on advancing Big Data, cloud and mobile technologies to support South Africa’s national priorities, drive skills development and foster innovation-based economic growth, IBM CEO Ginni Rometty said.IBM already has 12 labs across the world, including one in Kenya. The lab will be in Braamfontein’s new software hub, Tshimologong Precinct – home of the Joburg Centre for Software Engineering (JCSE) that is a three-way partnership between government, academia and industry.IBM’s South Africa said its researchers would partner with local universities, research institutions, innovation centres, start-ups and government agencies to bolster “South Africa’s emerging innovation ecosystem” and help to develop next generation technology skills. The company has already struck up agreements with Wits University, the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) to collaborate on research programs and skills development.African innovationMinister of Science and Technology Naledi Pandor, who was at the launch, said international technology companies were beginning to appreciate the role that Africa would play in their own future and sustainability.“Africa’s drive and innovation will change the world,” she is quoted by technology website htxt.africa as saying. “For technology companies, Africa is a vast new market.”Pandor said this was the first time an international corporation had invested in R&D through BBBEE financial models.Pandor reportedly said she wanted the new facility to focus on promoting the role of women in science, and to take a role in ensuring more female graduates entered careers in technology. Part of the funding will be used to provide bursaries for students.World-class skills“IBM considers two factors when deciding where to place research labs: access to world- class skills and talent and the ability to work on pressing business and societal challenges that can be best addressed through advanced information technology,” said IBM’s Dr John Kelly in a statement.“South Africa provides an exciting backdrop as we look to expand our research efforts in the region. Our Africa-based researchers are part of a global community of IBM scientists who are forging the future of our company and ensuring that we remain at the forefront of scientific discovery.”Research teamThe South Africa research team will be led by Dr Solomon Assefa, formerly a research scientist at IBM’s flagship Thomas J Watson Research Center in New York.Assefa has co-authored more than 50 scientific articles and has 45 patents. He was named one of the World’s Top Young Innovators under 35 by MIT’s Technology Review in 2011 and a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum. Last year he was named a Fellow of the Ethiopian Academy of Sciences.“The development of a successful innovation ecosystem is crucial to the further development of the South African economy and the country’s international competitiveness,” said Professor Adam Habib, Wits Vice-chancellor and Principal.“IBM Research’s decision to locate in Braamfontein in Johannesburg will give a huge boost to a dynamic community of programmers, designers, developers, entrepreneurs and start-ups.”SAinfo reporter
A Web Developer’s New Best Friend is the AI Wai… Top Reasons to Go With Managed WordPress Hosting Related Posts Tags:#NYT#Trends#web sarah perez Why Tech Companies Need Simpler Terms of Servic… Apple has always been very protective over their proprietary software. The company doesn’t want anything but iTunes to control an iPod – and for good reason, too. The iTunes Store is a money-making machine with over 65 million active customers helping the company sell billions of songs, videos, and apps. Despite iTunes’ popularity, however, there are still those out there who would rather run their own software. Reverse-Engineering iTunesIn order to make an iPod work with an alternative software program – like gtkpod, Winamp, and Songbird, for example – developers need to understand a file called iTunesDB. To prevent people from writing to this file, Apple protects it with a checksum hash which has to be reverse-engineered. Usually that process only takes a couple of days. With the latest iTunes update, Apple has once again changed the hash, meaning it needs to be reverse-engineered again. The developers doing so collaborate together and share their thoughts on iPodhash, an open-source project hosted on Bluwiki, a free web site that lets users create wiki pages. Now Apple has asked for that site to come down, a request that the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) says is out of line. Earlier this month, a lawyer from Apple’s legal firm O’Melveny & Myers sent out a takedown notice to the site stating the content was illegal under the terms of the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). According to the cease-and-desist email, the site is “disseminating information designed to circumvent Apple’s FairPlay digital rights management system.” It continued, “FairPlay is considered anti-circumvention technology under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. The DMCA explicitly prohibits the dissemination of information that can be used to circumvent such technology.”The EFF has jumped on this case, saying that Apple “doesn’t have a DMCA leg to stand on.” According to EFF senior staff attorney Fred von Lohmann, this move is effectively bending the law in order to stifle free speech. “Apple is essentially saying here that people can’t even talk about the mechanisms that Apple uses to lock in its music to the iTunes software,” he said. The EFF web site goes into more details as to why the EFF believes Apple to be in the wrong, listing the numerous reasons why there’s no DMCA violation on the site. Where Does This Leave The Linux Community? Since the Bluwiki site has complied with the takedown notice, the question is where does this leave the Linux community now? The main reason for the iPodhash project’s existence is due to the fact that Apple does not provide a version of iTunes that runs on Linux. The project is an important community effort that helps Linux users create software programs that work with their iPods and iPhones.Bluwiki’s founder, Sam Odio, had said he was unsure if putting the site back online would be possible. Says Odio of his compliance with the takedown notice, “I regret having to do this. I may be able to put the site back online, but quite honestly it’s unlikely because I can’t afford a legal battle with Apple.” Luckily for him, the EFF is now involved, so he will not have to worry with the legal fees.Apple may only be protecting their very profitable iTunes business, but in this case, they’re suggesting that the DMCA covers people merely talking about technical protection measures. If that’s so, then as EFF says, “they’ve got a serious First Amendment problem.” You can follow this case’s progress on the EFF’s web site, Odio’s blog, and on the iPodhash project’s homepage. 8 Best WordPress Hosting Solutions on the Market
