Disabilities centre must be funded in Budget 2019 – Pat the Cope

first_imgDeputy Pat the Cope Gallagher Leas Cheann Comhairle has called on the Minister for Disabilities Finian Mc Grath to ensure that the Cleary Centre Donegal Town is included in Budget 2019.The Cleary Centre committee has had disappointment before after commitments from the Minister that a new centre would be included in the building programme of the Department and the HSE fell through in 2018.As Budget talks commence this week, Pat the Cope Gallagher is calling on Minister McGrath that he makes provision for the capital costs for the construction of a new centre in Donegal Town. Pat the Cope said: “The Cleary Centre carries out trojan work on behalf of the disability sector, providing supports for those with intellectual disabilities.“In 2014 the centre was deemed to be no longer fit for purpose and a new purpose built centre would be required to insure the long-term future of the centre.“Initially the centre was refused inclusion on the building programme of the Department but following pressure applied on the Minister and the Department it was subsequently agreed to be included on the programme but no funding was approved at the time.“It is essential that funding for this new centre forms part of the 2019 budget and that the Minister for Disabilities Deputy Mc Grath ring fences the funding which will be required to construct the new centre. “If this centre is to move to construction stage it will require funding to be approved in next month’s Budget and it is in that context that I am now pressurising the Minister to make provision for this most needed centre in Donegal Town.“If the government fail to make provision for this centre then it will delay the delivery of the new centre considerably,” concluded Pat the Cope.Disabilities centre must be funded in Budget 2019 – Pat the Cope was last modified: September 11th, 2018 by Rachel McLaughlinShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)last_img
